Drone Roof Survey in Lymington

High-resolution inspection of pitched and flat roof areas

Southern Roof Diagnostics completed an aerial roof survey for a property in Lymington, Hampshire. The building included pitched tiled roofs, flat roof areas and a range of junctions and rainwater details that benefited from a close, high-resolution visual record.

The drone footage was captured on 1 October 2026 and the illustrated roof overview report was issued on 5 October 2026.

Project overview

  • Location: Lymington, Hampshire
  • Service: Drone roof survey and visual roof overview
  • Property: Mixed pitched and flat roof construction
  • Purpose: Create a detailed record of accessible roof surfaces and visible details to support maintenance planning
  • Reporting: Selected still images with clear annotations and inspection limitations

The instruction

The client required an efficient overview of roof areas that could not be examined fully from ground level. A drone survey offered close views of coverings, junctions, valleys, abutments, rooflights, outlets and rainwater goods without introducing unnecessary access equipment onto the roof.

The aim was to document visible condition and provide a useful basis for future discussion, maintenance planning and comparison.

What the survey reviewed

The imagery covered visible elements including:

  • Pitched roof coverings and ridge lines
  • Chimney and wall abutments
  • Leadwork and weathering details
  • Flat roof surfaces and perimeter junctions
  • Rooflights and penetrations
  • Valleys and changes in roof level
  • Gutters, outlets and other visible drainage details
  • Areas obscured or difficult to inspect from ground level

What the survey provided

High-resolution stills were selected from the drone footage and arranged into a concise roof overview. This created a clear visual record for the client and enabled individual roof areas to be discussed without relying on general descriptions alone.

The survey also gave the client a useful baseline. Dated aerial imagery can be compared with later inspections to help identify visible change, recurring maintenance concerns or new damage after significant weather.

Why drone inspection was appropriate

The property contained multiple roof forms and changes in level. A drone allowed the roof to be reviewed from consistent angles while reducing the need for initial scaffold or mobile access equipment solely for visual information gathering.

Drone imagery does not replace every close-up or intrusive inspection, but it can make the next step much more focused. Where a concern is visible, targeted access or specialist testing can be directed to the relevant area.

Report limitations

This was a visual aerial survey based on the roof condition visible at the time of flight. Drone imagery cannot confirm concealed build-up, insulation condition, membrane adhesion or the source of every internal water entry.

Some areas may be obscured by roof geometry, retained debris, equipment or access restrictions. The report distinguished the available evidence from matters requiring closer inspection or another diagnostic method.

The value to the client

The completed report provided:

  • A dated visual record of the principal roof areas
  • Clear views of difficult-to-access details
  • A practical reference for maintenance discussions
  • Evidence to help target any further inspection
  • A baseline for future comparison
